Fair trade art aims to enable artists to make a living from their art by respecting the principles of Fair Trade. It has its source in the notion of fair trade, but it also questions the status of the work of art in a liberal economic system dominated by globalization. As in fair trade, the idea is to achieve greater equity between buyers and sellers. Fair art thus proposes a new relationship between artist and audience, based less on the law of supply and demand than on the exchange between works of art and basic necessities.
Fair art allows the artist to live from her/his work without any form of commodification, but it also allows works of art to be easily accessible to the public.
Africa Prints wishes to promote artists from Africa and the Diaspora to make a living from their art and thus to devote themselves to creation.
